Helena's appearance would most likely be the styreotypical way to portray a tradition-bound, gentle and submissive woman. While her outer appearance makes her seem exactly the character you would expect her to be, she behaves otherwisely when it comes to the treatment she receives as wife of Aloysius.
Promptly after the marriage between Aloysius and Helena and the unprepared visiting of the persona, Aloysius was assaulted by waves of guilt-inducing experiences and by what one would consider deprivation of personal space. One would lose most, if not all mental support and delve into the state of a malleable mind susceptible to any sort of suggestions or give in to any intimidation. This meant that Aloysius was no longer the leader of the household as one would consider him to be.
Why so? Helena had emotionally blackmailed Aloysius through continuous, subtle yet harsh methods such as repeatingly serving three portions of of a meal till it was understood that he should have informed her of any guest arriving before bringing them back. It could be said that she had carved deep in his mind, the consequences of any wrongdoings he commited, such that he would dare not offend her in any way in the future. Helena becomes the one to set the rules and regulations in the household and that robs Aloysius of any standing ground in it.
Following that, any privacy he could find escape in is stolen away through constant monitoring of his schedule and who he shares company with. In my opinion, this annihilates the possibility wherein he achieves freedom from her manipulation and would constantly strengthen her hold on him as he becomes a soulless puppet living according to her wishes. Now, the male counterpart, Aloysius, is the one, to this relationship, that has to conform to the needs of the society or in this case, Helena's.
A massive mental breakdown was inevitable with this amount of pressure. This was proven by the fatal sickness that arose from the stress and tension accumulating in the dominatrix reign.
